Getting a Move On...

I haven't moved much in my life and after the last four weeks I really, REALLY don't ever want to do it again. When I moved six years ago down to just south of Houston, right after my husband and I were married, we moved just me. It wasn't too tramatic then.

Let's fast forward six years and factor in a house, two kids, and six years of marriage and your Uhaul will look more like this...
...and a van that's loaded like this...
...AND a car that's packed to the air vents like this...
Here I thought a 20-foot truck would hold everything. I can't imagine had we not had a yard sale three months before and had not taken fifty-million trips to drop off loads of stuff at Goodwill.

It was the last walk-through of our house that really made the tears flow. All those beautiful memories: the children's room, the school room, the living room...even the laundry room.

I know...it sounds crazy that the laundry room would hold it's own fond memories. It was the time when I closed the locked door behind me as I carried a load of dirty clothes out to the washing machine, shutting my four month old baby boy in the house by himself...along with my cell phone, and locking myself out. I was never more relieved to see the Texas City Fire and Rescue truck pull up outside my house and then shuddered when I had to choose between them breaking a window or kicking in the door. I chose the latter. *sigh* Such fond memories.

Then there was saying good-bye to my best friend. She was such a help and blessing to me when I thought I was going insane and that a heart attack was right around the corner. I had no experience at packing boxes and she was the expert. She is the perfect example that a beautiful friendship can grow from the ashes of despair. At one of the lowest times in our lives the Lord sent us the sweetest couple to be the encouragement we needed. I miss her terribly!

From the house we took our last drive back to Uhaul to hook up the trailer and car...
...before saying our last goodbyes and heading out...
From there it was on the road with one last look at the Texas we love! Next up...twelve hours of traveling and unloading into storage! Exciting!
