The Wise Man built his house upon the rock.
The Wise Man built his house upon the rock.
The Wise Man built his house upon the rock.
And the rains came atumbling down.
The rains came down and the floods came up.
The rains came down and the floods came up.
The rains came down and the floods came up.
But the house on the rock stood firm.
It's ok to do the hand motions as you read. I tried but it's hard to do when you're typing.
In the second verse of the song the Foolish Man comes along and also builds a house, but instead of building upon the rock, he built on the sand. When the rains came down and the floods came up, the house on the sand went SPLAT!

The last verse is the moral of the story: So build your life on the Lord Jesus Christ. Why build your life on Jesus? And the blessings will come down.
This past Sunday my Pastor preached a thought-provoking message about these two men, and I've been meditating on this passage for the last several days. It's quite a familiar passage of Scripture but the implication is amazing!
Do you realize that for both men the rains and the floods came? It didn't matter that they had built a house or that one was foolish and one was wise...the rains came down, the floods rose, and the winds blew and beat upon their houses. The difference for these two men was where they built their house.
In Matthew chapter seven the Lord offers an application of this story. Verse twenty-four likens the wise man to one who hears the sayings of the Lord and does them..in other words: the wise man's obedience to the Word of God was the foundation for which he built his house. It seems this man had thought ahead about what could happen after the house was finished. So when the storms came his house stood because it was founded upon a rock. (vs. 25)
For the foolish man, he heard the sayings of God but he did not do them. The same kind of storm came and beat on his house just like the wise man, but his house fell and great was the fall of it. (vs. 27)
Storms come in everyone's life, but where you've built your "house" before the storm will ultimately determine how well you will "weather" the storm. When built on obedience, the promises of God become sweet and precious as you cling to them. They are the hope that all things WILL work together for good, to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)

Every Sunday and Wednesday I hear the Word of God preached from the pulpit, and every day I read from the Scripture how the Lord wants me to build my life. But it's what I do with what I've heard that will determine how well I weather the storms that come. But be ye doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. (James 1:22)
