I am not a Black Friday shopper. I find no joy or excitement in waiting in line at the store for three hours until the doorbuster deals start; only to find out they have a limited number and I am the next one in line...right after the last item has been given out. Grrr....
Just in case you may have been given the impression that I have never gone shopping on Black Friday, or pre-Black Friday (aka "Thanksgiving Day"), you would be wrong. One year when I was single and living at home, my Mom and I were the only ones at home on Thanksgiving Day. My sister and her family were in South America serving as missionaries, and my father was visiting missionaries over the International Date Line in the Philippines. He was scheduled to come home the Friday after Thanksgiving.
My Mom and I both had the bright idea to have some fun and head to Walmart to see what great deals we could find. After five minutes, almost being run over by a shopping carts, and several shoves later, I was so done with the whole mess.
Another year, the store was so packed you could barely move around. I remember cutting through the clothing department by sneaking through the racks. I hadn't played hide-n-seek in the clothes since I was a kid...and I seriously don't plan on doing it again anytime soon.
Nah, my idea of Black Friday shopping is getting on my phone, typing in what I want, adding it to my cart, and heading to online checkout. That's right...I'm talking about doing all my shopping online.
So that's what I found myself doing on Thanksgiving afternoon, all curled up in a recliner with my phone, fighting away drowsiness that accompanies overeating. I'm happy to report I took care of almost everyone on my Chrstmas list, including my own present.
Hey, I got what I wanted and I saved more than half! And I'll thank my Mom for wrapping it for me once it comes in next week.
Have any Black Friday traditions that you enjoy doing? Hope you saved a bunch!
Simply Shopping,
