It seems the groundhog didn't see his shadow a few weeks ago; which, for most of us, means absolutely nothing. According to things I've read, this simply means spring will be early this year. BUT if he had seen his shadow, he would have retreated back to his den to wait for spring to arrive in six short weeks.
Now, Groundhog Day was two weeks ago so that means we're just four weeks away from spring...supposedly. Less than that since he didn't see his shadow.
But here at my house, we've been "celebrating" a different kind of season...one you may never have heard of. If you have, I feel so very sorry for you. It's been a brutal one for us.
I'm referring to the fifth, relatively unknown season appropriately known as: The Flu Season.
For me it was a simple little, nagging, annoying cough. It felt like a tickle at the back of the throat that just wouldn't go away with drinking fluids.
I commented to my fellow teachers at lunch that day that "The Cough" was really starting to drive me insane. Since I live on the brink of insanity, it wasn't such a far jump into the full-on "I'm out of my mind."
Six hours later it seemed I had arrived. There I was, huddled under a mound of covers on my bed, simultaneously shivering from chills while burning up with fever. It's amazing how you can do both at the same time.
I'd already spent the day before with my two boys at the Pediatrician having flu tests done before biting the dust myself. My poor Babies...one couldn't be away from a trashcan while the other one wanted only to curl up on my lap and go to sleep.
"Congratulations," said the doctor. "They're flu positive."
Yay me! Then one by one we fell: the boys, me, my husband...and three days later, my daughter.
All I can say is that it's been a wild ride. In one week I've been to the doctor four times (once for me) and have become well aquainted with the staff at Walgreens. We now greet each other by our first names...
Even though spring is just a hop, skip and a jump away, we're saying good-bye to The Flu Season here at my house. I'd say it's been real fun, but the only truth in that is that it was real. It was real...but it was NOT fun.
So good-bye, Flu. Hello, Spring!
Simply Convalescing,
