The Blessing of Faithfulness...

We've just spent the last couple of weeks visiting friends, family, and favorite food places that can only be found in the great state of Texas. I spent so much time eating, from donuts to fried catfish to Oreos, that I really, REALLY need to just spend the next few weeks detoxing from all the calories I ingested.

My kids, on the other hand, were a bit reluctant to come home just because Papa and Mimi kept them loaded with cookies, Little Debbie Cakes, a wide variety of Coke products...to them it was paradise.

The first day there I caught my seven year old walking around drinking a 16 oz. Dr. Pepper. What in the world are you doing? You're not allowed to drink Dr. Pepper!

But, Mom, he whined, Papa said we could help ourselves to whatever we wanted to drink.

I mean...what could I say to that? We were on vacation...

Needless to say, they will be detoxing from sugar this week.

On our last Wednesday there, we made a suprise visit to the church that had a tremendous influence on my hsuband's salvation and early Christian discipleship. We hadn't seen the dear pastor, his wife, and some of the members in over twelve years, and we were excited to just stop in and say "Hi."

What a blessing it was for our family to find the church still there, the members still faithful in attending a midweek service, singing so loud it sounded like there were over a hundred in the small auditorium. It was while introducing my dear hubby to preach that the pastor began to choke up with tears...so thankful for the blessing of seeing someone, reached through their ministry, still busy faithfully serving the Lord.

I learned something that night: others receive blessings from our simple faithfulness in serving God. In this crazy time we live in, knowing that you are not alone, that there are other dear Christian believers out there, holding the line, faithfully blooming where the Lord has planted them, can be one of the biggest blessings of all.

Don't give up! Don't fall back! Don't give in! Keep on serving! Keep holding the line! There are blessings in faithfulness!

Simply Pressing On,
