Learning to Read (Part 2)...

In my previous post about learning to read I mentioned one of the reasons for my starting to teach phonics to Michael so young: to ultimately teach him to have a love for reading.  It wasn't until I was re-reading my post after it was published that I realized I had failed to mention the number one reason for teaching him to read....my mistake.  It's not just for him to read any books....

...but to read THE Book--the Word of God.  If I can instill in Michael the love for reading now I can also teach him to have a love for reading the Bible.  That gives a whole new meaning to Abraham Lincoln's quote: A capacity and taste for reading gives access to whatever has already been discovered by others. That discovery is the change that Jesus Christ can have on the eternal security of every man who believe's in His death, burial, and resurrection and the change He can make in the life of someone totally surrendered to Him....


This is what I want for Michael...this is why learning to read NOW is so vital to shaping who he will become as a man.
