Stepping Up and Standing Firm...

There are two topics that some people consider to be conversational taboo: religion and politics. I'll be honest...both of these terms put a bad taste in my mouth. You would consider this blog to include religious topics when in reality, my life is built on my relationship with my Savior and His Word, and not just my place of worship or what someone would consider to be my "religion".

There IS a difference: religion focuses on the do's and dont's to get to Heaven (works based salvation) instead of the One who paid the way for any and all who accept His payment for our sins. Religion can lead you astray; a relationship with Him will never stear you wrong.

On the other hand, the topic of politics seems to have become more hostile over the last several years. I try to avoid mentioning any political party or political affiliations on this blog. You're probably just as sick and tired of it as I am...on both sides.

But I've come to understand something about myself over the last few weeks as I've watched our focus turn from a worldwide pandemic to the agendas of people with money or in power: I'm tired of being lectured to. Whether it be the media, multi-million dollar sports figures, hollywood actors/actresses, or political candidates, I'm just plain exhausted at being told who or what I support. And if I voice my support for a political candidate or company backlash comes in the form of being ridiculed, labeled, and/or boycotted.

These are troubling times, My Friend.

Whatever happened to free speech? Whatever happened to respecting someone elses opinion or "agreeing to disagree" while still remaining civil? Whatever happened to being just Americans, no matter your ethnicity or the color of your skin?

You may have read the story how the company Goya was being boycotted for their support of our president. When I read the story, I was inspired by a campaign to "buy-cott"...in other words, each person is encouraged to buy $10 worth of Goya products and donate to your local food pantry.

Two words: Challenge. Accepted.

I've already put my $10 in my cart of my online order...only we'll be eating what I buy! Will you take up the challenge with me and show your support?

Whether you eat or donate, let me know what you do!

Simply Standing Firm,
